Jeeter's Dwayne Wade Heading to NBA Hall of Fame, with Alan Iverson Inducting

A teaser tweet (post?) from 13-time NBA All-Star Dwayne Wade's cannabis partner Jeeter hints at a special offering to celebrate Wade's induction into the NBA Hall of Fame next weekend.

Playing mostly with the Miami Heat, Wade won three NBA championships and was the 2006 Finals MVP. Widely regarded as one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history, he is Miami's all-time leader in points, games, assists, steals, shots made, and shots taken.

Wade's limited edition line with Jeeter, the So Cal company that's said to be the top pre-roll seller in the country, was announced in December 2021. He has also started a wine company, and moved to California from Florida in part to support his trans daughter Zaya. He and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, picked up the President's Award at the NAACP Image Awards this year, something Michelle Obama tweeted out.

Wade and Iverson
Wade has chosen Alan Iverson to do the honors of inducting him into the Hall of Fame. Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star, was the NBA's MVP in 2011. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.

Iverson got branded as the league's pothead when, as reigning Rookie of the Year in 1997, he was busted for possession of a joint and a concealed weapon after a traffic stop in Virginia. In order to have the charges dismissed, he had to agree to undergo monthly drug testing for two years.

But times have changed: AI started a cannabis line named "The Iverson Collection" with NBAer Al Harrington's Viola Brands in 2021, when it was announced the pair would collaborate on "educational efforts to reduce stigma surrounding cannabis use." Iverson now talks about how marijuana "changed his thought process" and how he believes in plant medicine. "I'm living proof of a cannabis consumer being active," he said. "It's not weed that will make you lazy; it's just a state of mind."

Barnes & Me at an Emerald Cup
In June, the NBA formalized ending drug testing and allowing active players to invest in and promote CBD brands. One who lobbied for the change was Kevin Durant, who won two back-to-back NBA championships as Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 & 2018. Other cannabis enthusiasts among former NBA players include Matt Barnes of the All the Smoke podcast, which has interviewed Durant, Iverson, and Wade. Towards the end of Wade's 2020 interview, hosts Barnes and Stephen Jackson thank him for the wine he gifted them with, and asked what five people, living or dead, he'd invite to a dinner party. When he mentioned Obama, saying he'd like to drink some wine with him, Barnes countered that he'd like to smoke with the former President. Wade allowed for both, noting "I live in California now" where it's legal. (You're welcome.)

The NBA Hall of Fame Class of 2023, including the 1976 Women's Olympic Basketball Team, will be enshrined during festivities at Springfield College in Massachusetts, the Birthplace of Basketball, on August 11-12. Wade's number 3, chosen for Iverson early in his career, will be retired by the Miami Heat later this year.
